We are always looking for local, professional musicians who are interested in tailoring their program for youth audiences.

SUITE AUTUMN FESTIVAL SATURDAY. - NOVEMBER 15, 2025

This is both a COMPETITIVE and a NON-COMPETITIVE event.

Options for entering COMPETITIVELY

Solo Piano (Keyboard)

($36 entry fee for solo keyboard/piano

Option 1 - Perform 2 contrasting works written exclusively for solo piano/keyboard, not to exceed 8 minutes duration performance times.* One work must be a keyboard/piano suite movement written by a Baroque-era (1600-ca. 1750) composer. Repertoire by female composers encourages.

Option 2 - Solo Keyboard / Piano - perform up to 2 movements / pieces from the Anna Magdalena Bach Notebook, not to exceed 8 minutes duration performance time.*

*ADJUDICATOR WILL CUT OFF PERFORMANCES AT 8 MINUTES.

Option 3 - Solo Keyboard / Piano - performance a single JS Bach Prelude, Invention, Sinfonia, or Prelude and Fugue (set) from the Well-Tempered Clavier (book 1 or 2) not to exceed 8 minutes duration performance time.* For WTC Prelude and Fugue “sets” please do not make cuts from the standard score.

Option 4 - Toccata - perform a Toccata written by a composer from the Baroque-era, or a Modern/Contemporary composer, written exclusively for keyboard/piano. Please do not exceed the 8 minute duration performance time limit.* Repertoire by female composers encouraged.

Option 5: 20th-century of Contemporary repertoire for solo-keyboard / piano. One work must be a keyboard/piano dance or suite movement that is inspired by baroque styles or repertoire / idioms. Not to exceed 8 minutes duration performance time. Repertoire by female composers encouraged. SUGGESTED REPERTOIRE, please CLICK THE BLACK BOX BELOW.

Small Ensemble - one instrument must be keyboard/piano

($40 entry fee per ensemble, maximum 4 performers, entry must not exceed 10 minutes including tuning, set-up and performance).

A: Baroque Composer (lived between 1600-ca. 1750)

B: Contemporary - Baroque-inspired Composer (lived/living after 1900)

C - An original composition that is written by the performer may be submitted for consideration. Composition must be not less than 32 measures in duration, notated using standard notation, and may not exceed 3 1/2 minutes in performance duration. Compositions must be submitted as both a PDF and with a video of the composer performing - very specific guidelines for video submission will be posted to this website after July 15.. Compositions may be solo keyboard and a small ensemble (not to exceed 4 performers - one of whom must be piano/keyboard).

A select number of compositions submitted via video will be invited to perform in-person on November 15 (no additional fee will be incurred). Composer will be notified on or before November 4.

FESTIVAL YOUTH RECITAL. One or two entries from each category listed here will be invited to perform on the Festival Youth Recital (by invitation). Honorable Mentions may be invited at the judges’ discretion.

The recital will take place on a saturday early evening, approximately 4 weeks following the festival.

COMPETITIVE CATEGORIES INCLUDE

A: Baroque Composer. You may enter one of the following competitive categories.

Baroque Era Suite Movement ($36 entry fee)

Allemande - Courante - Sarabande - Gigue - (Galanteries: Minuet, Gavotte, Passacaglia, Chaconne, Loure, Polonaise, Passapied, Aria, Bouree)

Entry not to exceed 3 1/2 minutes total - performed on solo piano, or piano + 1 or 2 instruments/voice; published arrangements encouraged

Baroque Era Toccata ($36 entry fee)

Entry not to exceed 6 minutes total - performed on solo piano, piano + string instrument (such as the Frescobaldi Toccata for Cello and Piano)

Original Composition ($30 entry fee)

Criteria for Award / Selection:

Baroque Inspired - clear reference to an Anna Magdalena Bach movement; Toccata style; Contrapuntal writing; Improvisatory style; Baroque- ornamentation
