Recital Dress Code
In a word: Modesty.
If you think you need to add a layer, please add a layer.
What NOT to wear: No logos. No sandals or crocs. No shorts. No skirts above the knee. If your shoulders are bare, consider how revealing is your top - if you think you need to add a layer, please do that. No wrist or finger jewelry (so that my piano keys don’t get scratched). Minimal perfumes and fragrances please. If someone has a fragrance allergy, we want them to be comfortable too. Some of my students practice modesty for religious and personal reasons - we want everyone to feel comfortable and respected and for attire to be “appropriate” according to a modesty-sensibility.
Ideal outfits: Collared short or mid-length shirts; light weight knits; modest dresses with no logos; tan or dark long pant/trouser; black solid shoe with a minimal heel or a comfortable clean shoe in which you can accurately and easily use the pedal.
Students don’t have to wear formal attire - ties, dresses, skirts are optional. In fact, I almost never perform wearing a jacket because that constricts my technique.
ALL STUDENTS: Please wear your recital outfit - especially the shoes! - to your group class (M/T/W students May 26 or 27 group class; Th Fri and Sat students to your scheduled private lessons).
Students on the June 7 recital - if you plan to bring more than 3 guests (in addition to the performer), please email Shad separately. There is limited seating, and we have just 47 seats.
